About SASH:
The Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) is the largest specialist and referral hospital in the southern hemisphere, located in Sydney, Adelaide and now Queensland. SASH has an excellent reputation for providing the highest level of care to our patients and their families.
This is an exciting chance for you to be the first surgery resident in our rapidly growing team on the Gold Coast.
The team has 3 board-certified specialists in surgery as well as a boarded neurology/neurosurgery specialist. SASH sees a broad range of Orthopaedic, Soft tissue and neurology cases, being well resourced with arthroscopy and laparoscopy, allowing for minimally invasive image-guided procedures. We are also equipped with locking plate systems, interlocking nail, TPLO, linear and circular Imex ESF, among others. Our new facilities include 3 new theatres, a huge surgery prep area, new ward/treatment areas, CT and MRI. SASH Gold Coast also has immediate specialist radiology support, full time specialist anaesthesia, 3 specialists in internal medicine, 24 hour emergency service, and a dedicated ICU with 2 specialists in critical care.

The Residency Program:
Our Surgery Resident will assist our surgeons with diagnosis, surgical treatment, and post operative care of surgical patients. The position will evolve to be having primary case responsibility with always having support and guidance from your supervisor. This position is a structured learning opportunity and will offer you a varied case load to ensure you are confident and ready to sit your board examinations.
The residency program requires a 3 year commitment, on a full-time basis being completed via the Australian and New Zealand College (FANZCVS). You will contribute to publications for the service while also conducting a brief clinical research project for publication (unless already performed which can contribute to your credential document).
About You:
We are looking for someone who can work independently with a reliable, adaptable and proactive approach to situations. To be successfully selected, you will need to demonstrate the following:

- Have a flexible approach to issues
- Strong work ethic and commitment to the culture and values of SASH
- Strong service orientation with a hands-on approach to all aspect of the patient journey.
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board (VPB) of QLD or an equivalent degree recognised by the QLD VPB. To find out if your degree is recognised, please visit the AVBC website.
- Successfully completed a Surgery Internship will be highly regarded
- Be enrolled or have passed in MANZCVS (or equivalent) in Surgery
- Published research is highly desired but not essential.
