Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Cattle Medicine

CityUHK is the first and only University in the region to offer a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). The 6-year BVM, established in 2017 in partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, received dual accreditation from the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2023. In 2028 the JCC will become eligible for American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) established in 2020 in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) is a vibrant, multidisciplinary department represented by both local and international faculty. CityUHK is ranked #1 as Most International University. The department’s needs are supported by state-of-the art facilities and equipment, including a clinical skills laboratory, a teaching dairy farm that produces dairy products sold on campus, a veterinary diagnostic laboratory, necropsy suite, veterinary teaching hospital and research laboratories. The VCS department has recently relocated to the new home of the JCC, the Jockey Club One Health Tower, in the heart of the CityUHK campus in Kowloon Tong. A generous start-up grant and administrative support are offered for the appointee. The position will be appointed on clinical track or tenure track.

Duties

The appointee will actively contribute to the missions of VCS to train highly professional veterinary clinicians, to advance animal health through clinical research and to engage with the local and international community. The appointee will teach across the BVM curriculum to ensure that students can attain Day 1 competences in ruminant handling, husbandry, health and production; will lead students on clinical rotations in ruminant practice and will support the Farm Manager and veterinary staff at CityUHK Farm through provision of veterinary services, nutrition advice and case management of cattle at CityUHK Farm, including on-call support as required.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences through service roles, administrative work and other duties to facilitate the further development of the College and its Department as a whole. We expect individuals to develop their work internationally through services, networking and leadership in the field. Active involvement in research is expected. Tenure-track faculty are expected to acquire extramural funding and establish an independent research programme.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a veterinary qualification recognized for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Hong Kong. For Clinical Track Appointment Board certification (European, Australian/New Zealand, American or equivalent Boards) in the relevant discipline is essential; a PhD is desirable but not essential. Candidates with credentials for Board certification completed, or near completion may also apply. For Tenure Track appointment a PhD is essential; Board Certification in the relevant discipline is highly desirable but not essential. For all appointments experience in clinical teaching and research is required.

Salary and Conditions of Service

The remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract with opportunities for promotion and continuous appointment depending.
