Veterinary Specialist in Emergency & Critical Care at Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS)

Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS) have an exciting opportunity for a full-time or part-time Veterinary Specialist in Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) to join our brand-new purpose-built hospital in beautiful Sydney, Australia

You will be part of the VSOS family, which is a fast-growing, privately owned business. At VSOS everything we do is based upon the belief in our team. This belief centres on treating our staff, referring veterinarians and pet owners with genuine mutual respect, which in turn drives exceptional patient care and a positive and inspiring environment. If your wish is to join a family-like culture, then please reach out to us.

About us:

We are looking for the right ECC specialist to complement our brilliant team, including surgeons; Dr Andrew Levien, Professor Kenneth Johnson, Dr Laurencie Brunel, Dr Michelle Joffe, Dr Nikola Heblinksi and Dr Rachel Basa, internists; Dr Karina Graham, Dr Amy Pepper, Dr Graham Swinney, Dr Chris Greenwell and Dr Matteo Bordicchia, a specialist anaesthetist, Dr Fernando Martinez-Taboada and a specialist in diagnostic imaging, Dr Joanna Pilton.

We have recently opened our brand-new world class specialist and emergency centre, Advanced Treatment Centre (ATC) and have an incredibly busy emergency department staffed by 11 emergency veterinarians. Our goal is to service this department with our phenomenal permanent vets and not utilise locum or casual staff, which to date has been very successful. There is one lead emergency clinician and then a floor coordinator that report to the directors, Drs Karina Graham and Andrew Levien. We are now looking for some serious expertise to take this service to the highest level where there are no boundaries.

We hold ourselves to the highest standards and are well-equipped, including a brand new in-house 1.5T Siemens Magnetom Sempra human grade MRI, a 64 slice Siemens Somatom go.Up CT, mobile digital x-ray, an extensive array of endoscopic equipment, ultrasound including echocardiography, c-arm fluoroscopy and a diode laser. We have a high case load of interventional radiology cases including lower urinary tract disease, intra-arterial chemotherapy and vascular stenting. Our cardiac caseload is high, with additional expertise in this field coming. Our emergency department has separate dog and cat wards that are visible behind glass, with an open floor set-up for critical care patients in specially designed floor glass pens. We have two Maquet ventilators, at least one would be used every few days currently. We work in a great community who entrust us to provide the highest level of care for their pets, where most pets are insured.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have an open mind, adaptable, willing to learn, be a team-player and have great communication skills. We love to work as a team and bounce ideas off one-another; sharing of knowledge, technique, and experience with each other is vital. A sense of humour is important, as is the ability to have fun. We are a small, great team who are full of enthusiasm. Rest assured, you will not be expected to service all critical care support 24/7 as Dr Karina Graham has a strong interest in this field and provides the current support and is willing to continue to allow flexibility for our team.

The benefits:

Remuneration for a suitably qualified specialist ECC will be above average. Qualified specialists and senior residents or registrars are welcome to apply. We value a great work life balance and flexibility!

VSOS offers relocation assistance and generous leave conditions. Please visit
