Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency

Veterinary Ophthalmic Referrals

Adelaide’s Only Veterinary Eye Specialists

Background

A second residency position is available at our boutique, independent, stand-alone ophthalmology practice in Adelaide. The training program satisfies the requirements to sit examinations for the following qualifications:

Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists

Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Ophthalmology)

Both qualifications allow registration as a veterinary specialist in Australia.  The Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) requires completion of Membership of the ANZCVS in another acceptable discipline prior to sitting Fellowship examinations.

The successful applicant would undertake a supervised training program over a three-year period, joining another ECVO/ANZCVS resident halfway through supervised training.  We have excellent collegiate relationships with a multi-discipline referral and emergency centre minutes up the road, where other specialist small animal disciplines can be accessed, and a specialist equine practice in a neighbouring suburb, where we see our horse cases.  Work at Adelaide and Monarto Zoos, together with seeing cases for local wildlife rescue groups, provide the basis of our exotic caseload.

Requirements

Ophthalmology is essentially a mix of ocular examination and diagnostic techniques, broad medical knowledge and fine surgical skills.  Although predominately focused on dogs and cats, a familiarity and interest in other species is important.  If this rare opportunity sounds appealing, we are looking for a highly motivated individual with at least three years veterinary clinical experience.  Prior completion of an internship is not essential.

Salary Package

Our pay rates are in line with Australian industry standards for residency training programs.  Following completion of supervised training, opportunities exist for ongoing non-supervised employment and business involvement, including options for production bonuses and equity share.
