The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences offers a six-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme, which achieved full accreditation with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council in 2023. We are seeking a competent, enthusiastic livestock veterinary clinician with a passion for teaching evidence-based veterinary medicine to the next generation of veterinarians, to join our team.

Duties

The Veterinary Officer will contribute to the education and practical training of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) students, especially those on clinical rotations in BVM Years 5 and 6. The focus will be on clinical teaching of production animal health and management, predominantly poultry and swine.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Supervise, instruct and assess veterinary students on core clinical livestock ambulatory rotations (poultry and swine); provide hands-on training of Day 1 Competences and clinical skills in the management of poultry and porcine health and disease, and in livestock preventive medicine;
  2. Deliver production and health management diagnostic services to farm clients (primarily poultry and pigs) during ambulatory visits in collaboration with the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice ambulatory teams;
  3. Organise and supervise BVM clinical livestock rotations (poultry and pigs) in Hong Kong and on the mainland (in the Greater Bay Area);
  4. Develop and implement quality assurance protocols and procedures to maintain the highest standards of veterinary care and education, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements;
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of BVM course materials and resources;
  6. Participate as a tutor in problem-based learning courses in the BVM curriculum; and
  7. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong (VSB) is required.
  • The applicant must have experience in production animal (poultry and/or swine) medicine.
  • Possession of a valid Hong Kong driving license (Class 1 or 2) is required.
  • Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Putonghua is desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Teaching experience is an advantage.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in veterinary education and administration would be an advantage.
  • Suitable applicants will be flexible, able to adapt to new challenges, achieve goals, and deliver outcomes on time.

This position is suited to a team player who enjoys teaching, has initiative, and has leadership abilities.

The successful applicant must be willing and enthusiastic to travel to local farms for ambulatory visits and to the mainland (mainly the Greater Bay Area) as required.

Salary and Conditions of Service
