Veterinary Internship Opportunities at JCU Vet
JCUVet is offering THREE 12-month internship positions for focused, proactive, recently graduated veterinarians who want to build their knowledge and clinical skills.
Ever thought of taking your career to the next level by working in a Small Animal Hospital? JCUVet is the Clinical Small Animal Teaching Hospital for James Cook University in Townsville. Our Specialist and Membered Veterinarians, Veterinarians, Interns, Nurses, Radiographer, Trainee Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Receptionists make up a diverse team of 85+.
Our internships have a core goal of practical skill development that you will be able to apply in your future career. We understand the concerns that Interns have as to the weekly hours expectations. At JCUVet, Interns will work an average of 38 hours per week, with access to additional learning and training opportunities within and outside of these hours.
2022 / 2021 Veterinary Graduates are encouraged to apply for these internships.
Hospital Rotating Internship - This role will enjoy rotation through Surgery, Emergency, Internal Medicine, Anaesthesia and General Practice, spending approximately 8-12 weeks in each rotation, typically working 4 compressed days per week. There will be some weekend work involved when on your Emergency rotation
Surgery Internship - This role will be primarily in the surgery department with scope to give you learning across all other areas you are interested in. Typically working 4 compressed days per week, with the potential for some weekend work involving checking patients and discharging them. You will be working within an experienced team including specialist surgeons and senior membership level surgeons.
ECC Internship – This role comprises building depth of ECC clinical skills in a safe and supported role under the guidance of our Critical Care Specialist. Shifts will be worked an average of one in every two weekends, some night shifts and some public holidays. As a shift worker, this role is entitled to 5 weeks annual leave.
