
Veterinary Clinical Residency Position
The Sydney School of Veterinary Science is currently recruiting for a resident in:
Veterinary Pathology – Camperdown
Commencement Date: 1 July 2025
This three-year, full-time program is structured with the objective of training highly skilled veterinary pathologists, ideal for a motivated team player with high level communication skills interested in contributing to our program both through hands-on laboratory activities and through the instruction of veterinary undergraduates and interns. The successful applicant will be part of the SSVS Pathology team who is motivated by their unified purpose of continuous growth of knowledge in the veterinary profession.
This three-year, full-time program supports a resident to fulfil the credentialing requirements for specialisation in Veterinary Pathology through membership examination by the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and work towards the American College of Veterinary Pathology board exam (ACVP). The residency is supported by four board-certified specialists, and 9 other academic and technical staff that make up the SSVS Pathology team. The position will be primarily based at the University of Sydney Camperdown Campus. Rotations between the Camperdown and Camden campuses are expected.
Residents will engage in the major subdisciplines of diagnostic pathology throughout their residency and interact closely with specialists, registrars, and other residents across a range of specialty fields. A collaborative approach to learning and patient diagnostics and care is encouraged at all times. Residents will be required to participate in discipline relevant rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds and resident pathophysiology seminars. Residents will be expected to assist in teaching veterinary students through lectures, tutorials, practicals and during clinic placements.
This position will provide advanced training in the field of Veterinary Pathology. Resident activities will include performing necropsies on domestic animals and wildlife species, histopathological interpretation of tissues from necropsy cases and surgical biopsy submissions, pathology reporting, and conducting haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology testing and analyses.
This program requires completion of two concurrent postgraduate degrees, a research Master’s, and a Master’s by coursework. The Scholarship Package for the successful candidate includes:
- A tax-free stipend allowance of $54,000 pa, paid every 2 weeks for the duration of the residency for up to three years. The Scholarship is indexed at $500 per annum on 1 January.
- Academic course fees for this program at the Commonwealth Support Place (CSP) student contribution amount rate, for up to six semesters, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
- An educational allowance of up to a maximum of $2,000 per annum, reimbursed against receipted claims.
- A research support allowance of up to a maximum of $4500 throughout the duration of the Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies degree, which is available to research supervisors, reimbursed against approved receipted claims.

- Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency
- A veterinary degree registerable in New South Wales.
- An Honours degree or equivalent, or prior research experience
- A minimum of 24 months of prior clinical experience or completion of a formal internship
