Surgical specialists or residency-trained/specialty board-eligible surgeons

About us:

The Southpaws purpose-built hospitals in Moorabbin and Mornington offer great lifestyle options. Southpaws practices have a world-renowned reputation for excellence, innovation and patient care. The expertise, collaborative approach and innovation brought to our hospital through our surgical and clinical teams is right for patients, clients, and our wider clinical teams across our hospital.  We regularly publish and present our latest work at national and international conferences and at events scheduled for the veterinary community.

Southpaws boasts one of only three veterinary radiation therapy units in Australia and were the first deep-therapy radiation unit for dogs and cats in Australia. We have full in-house laboratory facilities, comprehensive diagnostic imaging including ultrasound, digital X-ray, digital fluoroscopy and a new Canon 16 Slice CT scanner. We also have extensive minimally invasive surgical equipment including a full range of arthroscopes as well as a needle-arthroscopy system. We also have a 3d laparoscopy tower which is possibly the only one of its kind in a veterinary hospital in Australia.  Our team is vibrant, friendly and passionate about the services we offer at Southpaws. Our team includes four surgical specialists, a surgical registrar and three residents (one IM), a team of interns, knowledgeable nurses and support staff.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Surgical specialists or residency-trained/specialty board-eligible surgeons to join our team. You will also be working closely with four experienced board-certified surgeons further to develop the capability of our multidisciplinary specialist referral centre.

In our hospital, internal medicine and surgery departments work to create a seamless transition for case management.  The top priority is the best care for each patient.  That translates to cooperation between specialists to provide top-quality care.  Our specialists undertake clinical rounds every day with interns and nursing staff.  These rounds offer direct interaction with the specialists, keeping them in direct contact with cases.  Case transfers occur daily with direct communication between our clinical teams.

While we have on-site fully-staffed 24 hour care, we are not a primary access Emergency centre. Clinicians get to focus on referred patient care. We strive to achieve clinical excellence within a working environment that promotes and encourages innovation, collegiality and communication. While this is a permanent opportunity for employment, we are open to conversations about short or long-term contracts. Buy-in is a possibility in the future for the right candidate.
