About the opportunity  

The Staff Veterinarian – Surgery Internship is a Post graduate surgery intern position in which the successful applicant will work together with other SA surgery unit staff for teaching practical classes to DVM students and supervising students during their clinical rotation in the surgery service. Surgery interns will work on referral surgery services under the supervision of a senior clinician who will delegate responsibility for certain aspects of patient management. Post graduate interns report to the unit head of surgery service, to the Clinical Director and to the CEO.

  • Degree in veterinary science registrable in NSW (or equivalent) and subsequent relevant veterinary experience.
  • A competent veterinarian with strong diagnostic and therapeutic clinical skills in small animal medicine and surgery.
  • An ability to work closely with veterinarians in all referral services of the UVTHS in a collegiate manner.

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney is ranked 1st in the Southern hemisphere and 9th in the world among veterinary schools (QS rankings, 2018). The SSVS provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in veterinary and associated disciplines, with the Teaching Hospitals providing the clinical learning experience for undergraduate students and staff engaged in professional training programs. The hospitals are also commercial centres and provide a range of veterinary services to the public. The Referral Surgery Unit provides care to referral clients and patients. 

This position is based at both the Camperdown (inner city) and Camden campus. As well as consulting duties and advanced investigations of the patients, the position involves teaching activities at both Camden and Camperdown campus and supervising final year students during their rotation.
