  • Base Salary HEO 7 (38 hours), $108,608 p.a. - $118,324 p.a.+ 17% superannuation (a total package up to approximately $138,439 p.a.)  + premium loading for after hours and weekend shifts

The Staff Animal Veterinarian/Registrar position operates within the veterinary teaching hospital in Camperdown. First opinion small animal emergency and/or critical care veterinarian at the Camperdown campus. The role encompasses both commercial veterinary services and clinical training of Day One skills to final year students at UVTHS.

In this position, you will:

  • provide first opinion emergency and critical care small animal services including medicine, surgery and anaesthesia for pet owners.
  • participation in the after-hours/24 hour care service including weekdays and weekends on a rotating basis with other veterinarians
  • provide ‘hands-on’ clinical training to final year students to develop ‘Day One’ skills including developing and independent supervision of spay clinic and first opinion consults
  • support undergraduate veterinarians and nursing staff in decision making, and case management
  • informal and formal presentations of small animal related topics at the hospital
  • participate actively in development of wide range of skills and dissemination of knowledge through attendance at journal club and hospital rounds
  • independent continuing professional development at evening seminars and self- funded post-graduate training.

About you

  • a degree in veterinary science registrable in NSW (or equivalent)
  • an equivalent combination of training and experience in ECC is preferred
  • a minimum of 12 months experience in small animal clinical practice with emergency duties
  • an ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Understanding of the balance of client expectations, financial limitations, and animal welfare, notwithstanding the need to maintain a sustainable business environment
  • experience in teaching/coaching others
  • the ability to show initiative and manage competing deadlines
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience and knowledge.
