JCUVet is the Small Animal Clinical Teaching Hospital for the James Cook University School of Veterinary Science located in Townsville, Queensland. We are passionate about providing excellence in clinical training for Veterinarians of the future by modelling exceptional veterinary practice.  Through our full-service General Practice and Referral Veterinary Hospital, we provide authentic clinical training in internal medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, emergency and critical care. We help patients, clients and referring Veterinarians from across Queensland, and in particular Central and Northern Queensland.

We seek to appoint a Specialist Small Animal Surgeon with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care, continued learning and a keen interest in teaching and mentoring others. The ideal candidate will have FANZCVS, DACVS, DECVS or similar registerable specialist qualifications, however we will consider appointment and support of a Registrar who is planning to undertake their Specialist examinations in the near future.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • encouraging a healthy and rewarding learning environment for both students and staff
  • contributing to a team that offers advanced surgical treatment options and care for referred patients from the local community and from across the state
  • forging strong relationships with referring veterinarians
  • contributing to the continuous growth and improvement of the referral surgical service
  • sharing and expanding your expertise through in-house continuing education and clinician rounds
  • involvement in student case management, case rounds, tutorials and assessment
