Small Animal Veterinarian

Overview Catastrophe! SuperVet is going to Queensland. Can you replace her?

Job Details Experienced Small Animal Veterinarian with special interest/qualifications in diagnostic imaging and medicine.

Ethos We have a referral-only clinic in the southern foothills of Adelaide, set up five years ago. We work with our clients to achieve the best possible outcomes for their pets. Referring veterinarians are from corporate and independent clinics and welfare agencies. The clients they send us are awesome; very appreciative and friendly.

While predominantly surgery-focussed, the practice is well equipped for diagnostic imaging and accepts referrals for ultrasonography, endoscopy and rhinoscopy. We’re also soon installing our own CT and there’s the daily access to a 3 Tesla MRI.

Salary Package $150k including a salary of $130k plus superannuation and continuing education. Six weeks annual leave (four weeks holiday, one week conference, one week externship). Assistance with sponsorship/relocation costs, and if you develop the practice, profit sharing.

Type of Work 100% referral small animal practice

Job Description This is a full-time position, working up to 40 hours per week over 4-5 days with a flexible roster to suit your external interests. Weekend work would consist of one Saturday morning every 3-4 weeks. We are not staffed for after hours or emergency work, so any after-hours work is confined to existing cases.

Job Role Working in a small team of 2-3 other veterinarians and 12 nurses, your role would be predominantly seeing referrals in diagnostic imaging and internal medicine, including developing the referral service for CT imaging.

Other tasks would include care of hospitalised and post-operative patients, assistance with anaesthesia and surgery, practice management (for example staff training), and verbal and written communication with referring veterinarians.

Essential Attributes Hold a veterinary degree which can be registered with the South Australian Veterinary Surgeons Board; have a demonstrated interest and experience in the specified fields; have clear written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Location The practice is located on a no-through road on the grounds of Flinders University with views down to the ocean, where the sun sets. It’s 15 minutes from the city centre, as is most of Adelaide.

We have also done trips across to the Eyre Peninsula for the last dozen years. The clients here are isolated; it’s an eight-hour drive to Adelaide or their next vet west is Esperance (1500km). We are in the process of developing our own facility in EP to better service this region. The position would likely entail travel to Port Lincoln on a monthly basis via regular public transport flights, or if you have an interest in aviation, we do have one of the finest Cessna 182s in the country on tap.
