Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS) is a multi-site, multi-disciplinary specialist and referral hospital group. We aim to provide exceptional patient care through a team approach, industry leading service to clients and referring veterinarians, and educational leadership for fellow veterinarians.
You will have access to a range of diagnostic equipment and services including; pathology, MRI, CT, digital radiography, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, fluoroscopy for both orthopaedic and soft tissue interventional indications, dedicated intensive care unit complete with ventilators and a blood bank, endoscopy, and an internal physiotherapy team with an underwater treadmill for rehabilitation.
The successful applicant will be supervised by two specialists in small animal surgery and join a team of seven Small Animal Surgery Specialists, ANZCVS, ECVS and ACVS, over four practices along with a network of registrars, residents and interns dedicated to helping each other provide exceptional patient care.
You will also be working with specialists in small animal internal medicine, feline medicine, canine medicine, cardiology, dentistry, ophthalmology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, medical oncology as well as full time animal physiotherapists. We maintain collaborative, modern hospitals with daily clinical rounds and regular journal club and textbook reviews.
Veterinary Specialist Services is an eminent and inclusive referral hospital. We work alongside the Animal Emergency Services to provide 24-hour care 365 days a year. We have a high and varied caseload and a team of more than 57 veterinarians over four sites (Underwood, Carrara, Jindalee and Toowoomba).
Applications are invited to apply for the three-year small animal surgery residency program based at the Jindalee and Underwood Hospitals. The full‐time program will enable the successful applicant to fulfil the credentialing requirements for specialist examination by the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and ultimately become a fellow of the College.
Our Jindalee hospital covers all aspects of small animal surgery – soft tissue, neurological, oncological and musculoskeletal and we are looking to further expand these services. Veterinary Specialist Services Jindalee has a particular focus on the multitude of surgical issues affecting the brachycephalic breeds including laser assisted turbinectomy (LATE).
Applicants must have completed a rotating internship or have equivalent clinical experience in practice. Being a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and having a paper(s) published will be looked on favourably but is not essential. The residency is available for a highly motivated, driven individual who will practice excellence in patient care and make the most out of every learning opportunity presented in this busy tertiary referral center.
