JCUVet is the Small Animal Clinical Teaching Hospital for the James Cook University School of Veterinary Science, located in Townsville, Queensland. We are passionate about providing excellence in clinical training for Veterinarians of the future. This is achieved through modelling exceptional Veterinary practice that inspires, challenges, involves and develops Veterinary students. Through our full-service General Practice and Referral Veterinary Hospital, we provide training in internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia, emergency and critical care.   We help patients, clients and referring Veterinarians from across Queensland, with a focus on providing Central and Northern Queensland with outstanding Veterinary care options.

We seek to appoint a Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care, continued learning and a keen interest in teaching and mentoring others.   The ideal candidate will have FANZCVS, DACVIM, DECVIM or similar registerable specialist qualifications; however we will happily consider appointment of a Registrar who is poised to undertake their Specialist examinations in the near future.

In this position, you will be responsible for: 

  • leading a team that practices and promotes advanced medical care for referred patients from both the local community, and from across the state
  • supporting and collaborating with other disciplines to encourage a healthy and rewarding learning environment for both students and staff
  • forging strong relationships with referring veterinarians
  • contributing to the continuous improvement of the internal medicine service
  • sharing and expanding your expertise through in-house continuing education and clinician rounds
  • involvement in student case management, case rounds, tutorials and assessment
