About Us

MARS and GARS are proudly privately owned, multidisciplinary, small animal referral hospitals. Both hospitals are staffed 24/7 with onsite specialists in oncology, surgery, internal medicine, emergency critical care, diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia. Specialists are supported by an outstanding team of, residents, interns, nursing, HR and customer service staff.

 The MARS & GARS vision is to be Victoria’s leading referral group. Extending beyond our first-class facilities, we are dedicated to recruiting like-minded, team players to help achieve this goal. Both hospitals are brand-new and purpose-built with GARS opening in 2022 and MARS in 2024.

The MARS hospital is located in Hawthorn East Melbourne and is a truly world class facility that is also located in a stellar location close to the city and major arterials. Local transport links including the Tooronga train station, within minutes walking distance from the hospital and the M1 freeway, also a few minutes away. The hospital is 1500 square meters and includes undercover parking for pet owners and staff.  No expense has been spared in fitting out the facility with a superbly appointed ICU, separate feline and canine spaces, waiting rooms, wards, ICU, 64 helical slice CT scanner, C-arm Video Fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, DR radiography several human hospital grade theatres and space prepared for a 1.5 T MRI to name but a few of the appealing features.

The GARS hospital is also state of the art and located in idyllic Newtown Geelong, which is surrounded by beautiful greenspaces, overlooking the Barwon River, Balyang sanctuary and Balyang Golf course. The facility is packed with state-of-the-art equipment, some of which includes; onsite MRI, CT, C-arm Video Fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, DR radiography, multiparameter patient monitoring, mechanical ventilators, ECG, blood gas/electrolyte, coagulation, haematology and biochemistry machines.

The MARS hospital is located less than 15minutes from the Melbourne CBD in the leafy and affluent suburb of Hawthorn East. Melbourne is regularly rated as the most livable city in the world for a number of very good reasons. The cosmopolitan culture capital of Australia has a dynamic and vibrant arts and theatre scene. This is complemented by sophisticated and stylish restaurants, bars and pubs. For sports fans, the sporting precinct on the Yarra is world renowned with the MCG, Rod Laver arena and AAMI park all within walking distance of the city and each other.

GARS overlooks the Balyang Golf Course and Barwon River with bike and walking paths right on our front doorstep. The popular cafes, restaurants and bars of Pakington street and Geelong CBD are less than 10 minutes away. The outstanding wineries and distilleries of the Bellarine peninsula and the beautiful beaches of Torquay Surf Coast and the famous Great Ocean Road are less than 25 minutes away. About the MARS & GARS Oncology Service

The Oncology service is headed up Dr Irina Gramer. Dr Gramer is a highly regarded Oncologist having lead the Oncology Team at the Royal Veterinary College. She is the founder of the Oncology Camp, an educational vehicle to help residents and interns prepare for examination.  Irina chairs the ECVIM education committee directly overseeing the training programmes of all ECVIM oncology residents worldwide. She has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and written book chapters in her career as oncologist. Since starting at GARS/MARS in January 2024 Dr Gramer has rapidly developed the Oncology Service with traditional chemotherapy, electrochemotherapy, APAVAC cancer vaccine immunotherapy and plasmid gene therapy. We are looking for an Oncologist to join the team, with time spent at both locations which can be catered to the successful applicant (MARS and GARS hospitals are 1hr apart).

Position details

We are specifically looking for a dynamic team player who is willing to collaborate with all members of staff while expanding our first-class services to patients, clients and referring vets. Area(s) of interest that the candidate wishes to advance to the highest possible level will be strongly supported.

About You

You will have the following;

  • A veterinary degree registerable in Victoria Australia.
  • Specialist in Oncology (FANZCVS, DECVIM or DACVIM) currently registered or eligible for registration as a specialist within the state of Victoria. Residency trained candidates will be considered.
  • Significant experience in all areas of Oncology with a passion for delivering the highest standard of care
  • Ability to work as part of a team with excellent communication skills is essential
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to lead and motivate junior staff
  • Ability to provide tuition, guidance and mentorship to junior staff
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education
