Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care


About this Opportunity

We are looking for a clinical academic with expertise in veterinary emergency and critical care to join the School of Veterinary Science. The position will be responsible for providing high quality, relationship-centred care to small animal patients, within the Small Animal Hospital situated on the Gatton campus. You will participate in the management of primary, emergency and referral cases requiring emergency and critical care.

In addition to ensuring excellence in clinical care, you will contribute to formal (didactic) and clinical teaching in undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional teaching settings. A contribution to clinically focused research and/or innovation in clinical practice is expected. Contributions to engagement with the veterinary profession are expected and will be through clinical innovation, training of interns, residents, and continuing education seminars. Dissemination of knowledge and skills through papers, presentations at conferences and seminars is expected.

The position is advertised at Clinical Academic level B and C and appointment level will determined based on the candidate’s qualification and experience.

About You

Criteria for Level B

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent, registrable in Queensland.
  • Demonstrated evidence of performing at an advanced clinical level through completion of a residency program.
  • Experience in a general or specialist veterinary clinical capacity, including evidence of supporting the implementation of new and innovative clinical techniques.
  • Experience in clinical teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate or professional clinical levels.
  • Evidence of research experience and outputs, including obtaining research funding and publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Experience in engagement and relationship building with the profession and industry or other bodies.

Criteria for Level C

  • A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent, registrable in Queensland.
  • Recognition of advanced clinical skills (Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists or equivalent), or completion of a higher degree by research (Masters or PhD)
  • Established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area.
  • Extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination of new and innovative clinical techniques.
  • A record of peer reviewed publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences, in conjunction with evidence of contribution towards successful applications for external research funding.
  • Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.
  • A solid record of the contribution to the supervision of students in advanced or specialty training programs.
  • Evidence of leadership and impact in internal service roles and in external engagement activities with the profession and industry or other bodies.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic Level B/C.

At Academic Level B, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range AUD$101,533 - $120,570 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$118,794 - $141,067 per annum.  

At Academic Level C, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range AUD$124,378 - $143,415 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$145,522 - $167,796 per annum.

About The Selection Process
