
Head of Emergency and Critical Care (ECC)

Melbourne Animal Specialist Hospital is a brand-new specialist hospital located in Ringwood, Australia, and is seeking a highly motivated emergency veterinarian to lead our ECC department. You'll be working alongside specialists in small animal surgery, ECC, anaesthesia and a specialist radiologist, and leading a fantastic team of energetic emergency veterinarians, nurses and support staff. The role is an opportunity to develop your leadership and clinical skills, under the guidance of the business owner and supported by our 2 ECC specialists. The role will feature leadership training and support, as well as providing formal and informal opportunities for personal growth.
Our equipment includes on-site CT, DR, Ultrasound, IDEXX Lab, Flexible and rigid endoscopy, and our newly installed ABL-90 Radiometer blood gas analyser. Plus, there's an emergency department equipment budget so you can choose the additional equipment you need to do your job, and have an opportunity to shape the department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated veterinarians and nurses, providing high-quality emergency and critical care services to our clients and their pets. The role is full-time, with days, evenings and weekend work. Significant dedicated time off clinics each week will be rostered for management tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment and training of new veterinary team members.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the emergency and critical care team, including veterinarians and nurses.
- Oversee patient care and treatment plans, working collaboratively with other departments as needed.
- Develop and implement protocols and procedures to ensure the highest level of patient care and client satisfaction.
- Work closely with referring veterinarians to ensure excellent communication and coordination of care.
Requirements:
- A degree in Veterinary Medicine registrable in Victoria, Australia
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in emergency and critical care medicine
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Emotional awareness and the ability to reflect
- Ability to work collaboratively with other specialists and departments
- MANZCVS or a specialist qualification is required for this role
Previous leadership role will be viewed favourably but is not essential. The opportunity to undertake an advanced qualification in leadership, business or teaching/mentoring is available as a part of the salary package. Salary is above industry standard, and based on experience.
