Pet Emergency North Lakes has a great opportunity available for an experienced emergency clinician to join our rapidly growing team. Pet Emergency is a 24-hour emergency and critical care service, based out of two locations, A position has become available at our new, purpose-built facility at North Lakes. We have state of the art equipment available, kept in pristine condition, aimed at ensuring our talented vets can meet their full potential. Further, our emergency clinicians get to work hand-in-hand with specialists in emergency and critical care, surgery, internal medicine, reproduction, dermatology and a visiting cardiologist, ensuring you always have the support you may require!


About Us:

Pet Emergency is a group of young, energetic, skilled and like-minded veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary nurses, all with the single aim of delivering the highest quality patient and client care possible. Lead by 2 Diplomate specialists in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC), our team consists of 6 senior emergency clinicians, 13 emergency associates and some of the most skilled ECC technicians and nurses you will find anywhere in Australia.

We believe strongly in furthering our skill set and knowledge, highlighted by our commitment to fortnightly in-house tutorials led by our specialists, monthly journal club and M & M rounds, and bi-annual conferences. We also support our ECC veterinarians to further their education and to actively pursue membership qualifications. Pet Emergency also intends on accepting our first ECC residents in 2021, with the goal of assisting our emergency and critical care veterinarians reach their full academic and clinical potential.

The case load we see is large and very diverse. While South-East Queensland is historically known as “tick-country”, you will also get to see elapid snake envenomation, polytrauma incidents, a range of medical emergencies, GDV’s, acute abdomen’s and just about anything that makes the heart of a true emergency vet beat a little bit faster! Our patients’ love to get our adrenaline pumping!

We have all of the fancy equipment you could possibly desire as an ECC veterinarian. This includes digital radiography, endoscopy, IDEXX in house lab suite, Blood Gas, PT/APTT computerised tomography, Esaote ultrasound, Puritan Bennett Ventilators and multi-parameter monitoring equipment.

Our North Lakes clinic is large, consisting of 8 consult rooms (all usually full!), 4 treatment benches, 3 surgical suites, ICU, a surgical recovery suite, oxygen cages, dog wards, a separate cat ward, an isolation ward, and honestly the list could continue… During the day, our clinic is also home to specialists in the fields of surgery, medicine, critical care, reproduction and dermatology. After dark though, it turns into the playground of the emergency clinician. Rest assured though, should you ever need advice, our surgeons, internal medicine specialists and criticalists are only ever a phone call away!

Finally, Pet Emergency has a very strong focus on staff mental health. Our roster permits a wonderful work-life balance, and we have programs established within our clinic to help alleviate the stressors that come with being a passionate and empathetic vet.


About You:

We are seeking an emergency veterinarian:

  • with 3 – 5 years of emergency experience;
  • ideally with membership qualifications already, but this is certainly not a deal breaker!
  • able to work both as a member of a team, and autonomously when required
  • who is happy to assist and guide the development of new and recent graduates, and veterinary nurses
  • who is committed to optimising both patient and client care
  • who sees emergency and critical care medicine as a career!
