Emergency and Critical Care Specialist/Criticalist

Our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) department is excited to offer the opportunity of a full-time ECC Consultant to join our purpose-built hospital.

The hospital

North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre is one of multiple hospitals in the Vet Partners group that has multiple hospitals and clinics throughout Australia. As such there is high out of hours caseload which feeds the ECC referral team. The referral hospital is multidisciplinary with referral services in surgery and internal medicine.

Our services include:

  • Anaesthesia
  • Diagnostic imaging service
  • Growing oncology service
  • Ophthalmological, dentistry and exotics referral services on-site
  • Purpose built MRI facility (coming in February 2022)
  • Interns, a medicine resident and specialty nurses to support the services.
  • Pet Ambulance Service

The team here are a fantastic group of people – with many celebrating work anniversaries this year of over ten years and multiple vets coming back after specialist training or staying on after training here. As a busy referral hospital, you would have access to the expected tools – dedicated ICU, multiple mechanical ventilators (for tick time here!), ultrasoundCT, MRI (as of Feb 2022), TEGinterventional radiology and a blood bank. On-site there is the Vet Partners Training Centre for use and we have a good network with the local practices.

About you

The successful applicant would ideally be ACVECC or ECVECC board-certified or an ANCVS Fellow. However, candidates eligible to sit the qualifying examinations for these colleges will also be considered.

The role

The ECC department in this hospital is growing significantly and you would join a team currently consisting of one other board-certified criticalist, 1-3 ECC interns, rotating interns and multiple ECC-specific nurses.

You would be involved in:

  • Training and supervising interns with the support of an administrative manager
  • Advising the out of hours and general practice team
  • Consulting on critical cases feeding from the entire hospital and our network

The location

We are located in the North Shore of Sydney which is centrally-located to everything that matters – beaches, sun and decent coffee.

Additional Benefits - $5000 study allowance, 1 week conference leave, 4-day work week
