Clinical Director - Emergency Department

An opportunity for a Clinical Director to join our Sydney team in our Emergency Department

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) is a well-established referral-only group of small animal hospitals. We offer a wide range of specialist services and provide 24-hour emergency and critical care through our multiple facilities across five states in Australia. ARH Homebush is seeking a second Clinical Director for our Emergency Department to work closely with our current service Clinical Director and overall management team. 

About Your New Role

ARH Homebush’s Emergency Department is recruiting for a second Clinical Director to join our team. This is a full-time role to work as part of our multi-disciplinary referral team which offers a 24-hour emergency service and specialist services such as critical care, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, surgery, oncology and radiation oncology, cardiology, behaviour, and physiotherapy.

The position combines clinical shifts and management responsibilities. As a Clinical Director, you will:

  • Establish best practice processes for the department
  • Communicate the vision of the hospital and key department updates to your team to promote a positive work environment
  • Ensure the department meets financial targets to sustain growth
  • Work with the business manager and other department heads to develop growth strategies
  • Complete performance reviews for team members to identify their areas of current success and areas for their future professional growth

In addition to the above, you will be involved in the interviewing of new emergency veterinarians and case complaints that are escalated to a point that require your input, as such scenarios arise.

We recently built a new, dedicated ICU for critical care patients and have an established team of highly experienced specialists, emergency vets and nurses. Our teams have access to the following state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic equipment onsite:

  • 5T High Field MRI
  • 64 slice Siemens cardiac CT scanner
  • 3 x GE Carescape R860 mechanical ventilators
  • GE Carescape Advanced patient monitoring
  • Intensobox Climate controlled Oxygen cages
  • Digital Radiography
  • Cardiac and abdominal ultrasound facilities
  • Full in-house laboratory
  • Three fully equipped dedicated surgical theatres
  • Latest Olympus CV-190 endoscopy system

About You

You are motivated, committed to patient care, and share a vision for a collaborative working environment, where referring veterinarians and pet owners receive personal gold standard service. This position requires interaction with the hospital business manager and practice manager as well as a large team of specialists, veterinarians and nurses. Excellent communications skills and an ability to lead a team are essential.

About Your Skills & Experience

  • You must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or other relevant qualification eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in NSW
  • Minimum of 5-8+ years working in a 24/7 Emergency and Speciality Care hospital
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams
  • Strategic thinking to refine and grow the service
  • Management training (formal or informal through CPD) would be advantageous
