12-month Small Animal Rotating Traineeship

The School of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University has a vacancy in the following program starting July 2024

The 12-month postgraduate trainee program is a year‐long, advanced clinical training program in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Western Australia. The training program offers clinical experience rotating predominantly through the areas of Small Animal Internal Medicine and Anaesthesia, as well as Emergency and Critical Care, Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Pathology.  Trainees also gain formal scholarly training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate program. These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and upskilling in areas that would be relevant to general practice, or a steppingstone to further clinical training such as a residency. Exceptional new graduates will be considered. An annual stipend of $40k is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate program which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of 2 semesters. Applicants must be able to start the program in mid-to-late-July for a Semester 2, 2024 enrolment.  Application for clinical training positions is restricted to veterinarians with a degree that can be registered in Western Australia.  Australian and New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status is required for eligibility for full tuition-fee support. Successful applicants who do not meet citizenship or residency criteria are responsible for International Student Tuition Fees beyond domestic fee support.

All enquiries around the program can be forwarded to Dr Robert Shiel by email robert.shiel@murdoch.edu.au

Applications close Friday June 14th. (Early applications/EOI’s are encouraged)

A letter of intent, current CV, certified copy of academic transcripts, names of 3 referees, and a certified copy of passport/visa as proof of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency, or of New Zealand citizenship, should be submitted to jody.reeve@murdoch.edu.au.  Candidates are chosen after a competitive selection process.
