Participate in Research: Blood Pressure Monitoring Survey
|
See the message below from researchers at CSU who are looking for veterinarians to participate in a survey regarding blood pressure monitoring practices and definitions in Australia and New Zealand:
Dear Colleagues, As a part of continuing research into the associated risks and potential effects of general anaesthesia in our canine patients, Dr Chris Quinn and I are seeking participants for a survey study entitled “Blood pressure monitoring practices and definitions of intra-operative hypotension in dogs anaesthetised by Australian and New Zealand veterinarians”. Human ethics ID for this study is H25139. Hypotension is well documented as a common peri-anaesthetic complication encountered in veterinary anaesthesia. Due to anaesthesia-associated compromise to renal autoregulation systems, hypotension results in ischaemia and hypoxia of the susceptible renal medulla, with potential to result in perioperative acute kidney injury (AKI). In human literature, even mild and transient AKI are associated with significant increase in mortality within 1 year after undergoing surgery. Perioperative AKI may also contribute to the development of chronic kidney disease in canine patients. Despite this, the blood pressure monitoring practices, intervention points and therapeutic strategies utilised in Australian and New Zealand practice are largely unknown. This study aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and practical application in this area. The results of this study will help to understand barriers to the consistent monitoring of blood pressure in a range of practices as well as discrepancies regarding hypotension identification and management. If you are a veterinarian currently practicing in Australia or New Zealand who regularly performs or directly oversees the anaesthesia of canine patients, we want to hear from you. The survey is anonymous and is expected to take 10-15 minutes of your time. We would love to see as many responses as possible to capture an accurate picture of the current landscape. All participation would be greatly appreciated. Participate here: https://csufobjbs.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4SzXFfSFAkjaWYC
